Product Redesign
For this project, we were given the assignment to find a product that needed to be redesigned and come up with a new design and create a style guide to create a more unified brand. I chose Swedish Fish because: 1 - I find them delicious, 2 - The old packaging seems a bit dated, 3 - I wanted to try something a bit out of my comfort zone.
After selecting a package, I had to redesign the logo. This was the most challenging part because I don't have a lot of experience of creating designs from the ground up. I usually have something to go off of or an element that is required so this was certainly uncharted territory. After seeking inspiration by enjoying a few Swedish Fish as I browsed the Internet, I remembered a classic and exciting idea. I remembered the fish on Disney's "The Sword in the Stone". It was all downhill from there.
After creating a logo, I disassembled the old packaging and scanned it in as a template for my new design. I used Adobe Illustrator for all of the graphics except the product photo of course. The package design was also done in Illustrator. I created a page layout in Adobe InDesign and used it for all of my pages with only minor modifications from time to time. Finally, I printed the whole document and assembled a working version of the packaging for display.
