Family Photo

What better way to exercise your photography skills (and patience) than to take your own family photo! While this photo turned out well, I certainly learned a lot about what not to do when taking group photos.
I took this photo of my sister Kristen! She isn't really grumpy but she wanted a funny picture. This shot was taken as an assignment for my photojournalism class. We used window light to create some nice portraits. This photo was taken in Makemo, French Polynesia. Although the water seems surreal, this photo is completely unedited. This photo was taken just north of the Rexburg, Idaho LDS Temple. It was beautifully lit and I liked the deep blue sky. This is a photo of my nephew. We were playing mini golf and he was very focused on the action. I think the shallow depth of field helps accent his eyes. This is another window light portrait taken of one of my sister's roomates. She had just woken up from a nap and I felt bad for disturbing her. I wish I looked that good when I woke up from my nap! A blistering fast shutter speed and a wide open aperature were the ingredients that made this awesome shot. I took this in the BYU-Idaho gardens. This sunflower made a nice subject and is quite interesting. I positioned the sun directly behind the flower and captured this unique image once again with a fast shutter speed and wider aperature. This shot was taken right as the sun was going down. I set a long shutter speed and a small aperature to achieve the proper exposure. As with many of my shots, I found a tripod essential. I took this shot of pumpkin seeds around Halloween after we had carved pumpkins and set the seeds out to dry. I love using a shallow depth of field to focus attention to my subject. This photo was taken early in the morning near the Rexburg, Idaho LDS temple. Something about these leaves really caught my eye. Perhaps it was the vivid red against the fresh snow. My roomate poured a glass of Sprite and we immediately noticed that something was different. Bubbles were forming much quicker than normal and I was able to capture this against the backdrop of our kitchen table. This sunflower posed nicely against a blue autumn background. I enjoy fall colors, especially the bright yellow of dying leaves against a blue sky. This sunflower reminded me of autumn so I captured it.
